Beetles World No. 25

Prosopocoilus schumanni spec. nov. from Vietnam is described and compared with the similar Prosopocoilus suturalis. The possibility of a curious colour morph is discussed.

Dorcus jinghongi sp. nov. is described from Guizhou and Guangxi. Two new localities are recorded for Dorcus fujiii Nagai & Maeda, 2010. Dorcus tenuecostatus Fairmaire, 1888 is considered an undefinable taxon, with the following consequent taxonomic changes made: Dorcus tenuihirsutus Kim & Kim, 2010 stat. rev. and Falcicornis pieli (Didier & Séguy, 1953) stat. rev. are revised as bona species. Falcicornis ruiliensis Huang & Chen, 2017 syn. nov. is treated as a junior synonym of Falcicornis virginiae (Bomans, 1991). Prosopocoilus astacoides reni Huang & Chen, 2011 stat. nov. is considered a subspecies of Prosopocoilus astacoides (Hope, 1840) on evidence of cross breeding. Prismognathus katsurai Ikeda, 1997 is recorded as new to Chinese fauna. Aegus imitator Nagel, 1941 is revised, with neotype designated. A. eschscholtzii (Hope, 1845) is excluded from Chinese fauna. Aegus zhouzii sp. nov. is described from Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi, Chongqing and Hunan. Aegus yangqiaozhii sp. nov. is described from Ruili and Gongshan, W Yunnan.

A new subspecies of Odontolabis stevensi from Sulawesi is described and compared with the nominotypical taxon. The taxonomical status and the distribution of O. stevensi-related taxa from the Indonesian islands Sulawesi, Sangihe, Tahulandang, Talaud and Peleng is discussed and their distribution is shown on a map.

The new species Dorcus mattisi is described and figured. An overview is given on the taxa of the genus Dorcus Mac Leay, 1819 represented in Asia Minor, the Caucasus region of southeastern Europe and West Asia. The morphological differences of Dorcus parallelipipedus, Dorcus parallelipipedus var. leuthneri = reichei, Dorcus peyronis and Dorcus prochazkai are outlined. The geographic distribution and taxonomical status are discussed. Dorcus vavrai has been placed as a subspecies of Dorcus peyronis (stat. nov.).

Aesalus (Huaesalus) qiaoweipengi Huang, Yang & Chen, new species is described from Henan, China. It is the third species of the subgenus Huaesalus Huang & Chen, 2017. Male and female genitalia are described in detail for the new species.

Platycerus daguanensis Huang & Chen, sp. nov. and P. weidengensis Huang & Chen, sp. nov. are described from Yunnan, China. P. liyingbingi Huang & Chen, 2017 is discussed on individual and geographical variations. P. ladyae Imura, 2005 is reported from Baoxing and Meigu, Sichuan. Male genitalia are figured for all of the species discussed.

The morphological differences between Odontolabis salvazae and Odontolabis fallaciosus are lined out and the taxonomical status is discussed. The geographic distribution of the taxa is indicated and specimens of different locations are figured.

Huanshengia hainana genus et spec. nov. from Hainan Island, China is described and illustrated. The systematic position of the genus is discussed.

Several Neolucanus specimens have been collected recently in Tibet and determined as Neolucanus castanopterus tibetanus Schenk, 2003. The careful investigation and comparison with numerous Neolucanus castanopterus of different locations resulted in placing Neolucanus tibetanus stat. nov. to the species level.

A new species of stag beetle, Capreolucanus zhuchuangi spec. nov. (Coleoptera: Lucanidae: Lucaninae) is described from Yunnan Province, China. The differential diagnosis of the new species from C. sicardi Didier, 1928 is provided. Important morphological characters of the new species are illustrated.

Two new taxa of the genus Eolucanus Kurosawa, 1970 are described. Eolucanus jonnae spec. nov. from northern India and Eolucanus davidis guizhouensis sspec nov. from China, Guizhou Province are figured and compared with the related taxa. An extraordinary big male of Eolucanus prometheus (Boucher et Huang, 1991) from Tibet, Bomi area and a pair of Eolucanus adi from northeast India, Arunachal Pradesh are pictured. The recently described taxa Eolucanus adi (Okuda et Maeda, 2015) comb. nov. and Eolucanus gracilis charchokpai (Okuda et Maeda, 2014) comb. nov. are transferred from the genus Lucanus Scopoli to the genus Eolucanus Kurosawa, 1970. All described taxa of the genus Eolucanus are listed in a table.

The recently in western Turkey discovered new species Lucanus (Pseudolucanus) fiedleri is described and compared with the related and sympatric distributed taxa.

Lucanus cenwanglaoshanus sp. nov. and Dorcus taoi sp. nov. are described from Guangxi and Sichuan respectively. The females of Lucanus zhuxiangi Wang & Zhan, 2018 are described correctly for the first time. The males of Lucanus fonti Zilioli, 2005 from Fujian are figured.

A new species of Ceruchus MacLeay, 1819 is described from Motuo area, SE Tibet, China, with the male and female genitalia illustrated.

Prosopocoilus flavidus borneoensis sspec. nov. from Borneo island is described and compared with the nominotypical taxon Prosopocoilus flavidus flavidus (Parry, 1866) from Sumatra Island and a specimen from west Malaysia. The female of Prosopocoilus flavidus flavidus is figured first time.

A new species of Dorcus Macleay, 1819 and a new species of Prismognathus Motschulsky, 1860 are described from Motuo area, SE Tibet, China, with the male and female genitalia illustrated.

Lucanus liuweii sp. nov. is described from the Tianmu Mts. of Zhejiang, eastern China.

A brief note precises the distribution of Nigidius svenjae Schenk, 2006 and his link with Nigidius dentifer Albers, 1884.

Odontolabis mouhotii Parry, 1864 is recorded first time for Vietnam. The morphological differences between Odontolabis mouhotii Parry, 1864 and Odontolabis elegans Möllenkamp, 1901 are discussed. The geographic distribution of the two taxa is shown on a map.

A pair of the rare species Prosopocoilus neopomeraniensis De Lisle, 1967 from New Britain Island is figured and compared with the type specimens.

A new Lucanidae of the genus Macrodorcas Motschulsky, 1861 from Thailand, Chantaburi province, Soi Dao district is described. The new species has the typical appearance presented by other species of the genus Macrodorcas but can be separated significantly. Macrodorcas kesininae spec. nov. has been compared by external morphology and by male genitalia with the related species Macrodorcas pseudaxis (Didier, 1926) and Macrodorcas virginiae (Bomans, 1991) which are represented also in Thailand to substantiate the hypothesis of a new species of the genus Macrodorcas.

We record the species Prosopocoilus fulgens (Didier, 1927) for the first time from Vietnam, with 6 specimens collected in Ta Phin Commune, Dong Van District, Ha Giang Province, Vietnam in 2016 and 2017. A description of Prosopocoilus fulgens (Didier, 1927) is given for our specimens from Vietnam. We discuss morphological differences between Vietnamese specimens and specimens from other localities.

Cantharolethrus homoderoides KRIESCHE, considered a Costa Rican endemic, is now reported from two Nicaraguan localities: Mt. Saslaya and Jesus Mountain with very different ecological conditions.

The new subspecies Cantharolethrus steinheili kirchneri from Peru is described and compared with the nomino-typical taxon Cantharolethrus steinheili steinheili from Columbia.

The Catalogue of Lucanidae is an updated listing of the species, subspecies and synonyms of the family Lucanidae. In this issue of Beetles World a synopsis of the genus Cantharolethrus J. Thomson, 1862 is given. Distribution, type locality, type depository and size of the taxa are indicated. Taxonomical comments are given and Cantharolethrus elongatus Lacroix, 1982 has been identified as a new synonym of Cantharolethrus peruvianus Heller, 1918. A determination key for the Cantharolethrus taxa is given. The Catalogue of Lucanidae will be continued in further issues of this journal.

One new species of the genus Lucanus Scopoli, 1763, Lucanus chinhillensis spec. nov. from north-western Myanmar (Chin Hills), a new species of the genus Neolucanus Thomson, 1862, Neolucanus ingae spec. nov. from north-western Vietnam and a new subspecies of the genus Cyclommatus Parry, 1863, subgenus Cyclommatinus Didier, 1927, Cyclommatus asahinai nanlingensis sspec. nov. are described, pictured and compared with the related taxa. A specimen similar to Neolucanus zebra Lacroix, 1988 from Taiwan Island, recently captured in China, Guangdong province, is figured.

2014 is nearly history again. New species of the genus Neolucanus Thomson, 1862 is described, pictured and compared with the related species. Neolucanus kachinensis spec. nov. is related to N. marginatus dohertyi and is distributed in northern Myanmar (Kachin State) and in China (Yunnan).

The catalogue of Lucanidae is an updated listing of the species, subspecies and synonyms of the family Lucanidae. In this issue of Beetles World a synopsis of the genus Neolucanus Thomson, 1862 is given. Distribution, type locality, type depository and size of the taxa are indicated. Some type specimen and several rare or recently described species are pictured. For several taxa taxonomical comments are given and some new synonyms have been proposed. International Insectfair Frankfurt am Main 2014

Die Internationale Insektentauschbörse in Frankfurt am Main gibt es seit über 100 Jahren. Es ist eine der größten Veranstaltungen dieser Art in Europa. Sie findet traditionsgemäß einmal jährlich am (letzten Oktober– oder) ersten Novemberwochenende jedes Jahres statt. Den aktuellen Termin entnehmen Sie bitte dem Veranstaltungskalender des Vereins Apollo e. V. – Veranstaltungsort ist das Bürgerhaus (Titus–Forum) im Nordwest–Zentrum Frankfurt am Main.

Parallel zur Insektentauschbörse findet seit 1995 ein Entomologisches Begleitprogramm statt, das von Frau Dr. Renate Rabenstein organisiert wird, und sich an Kinder richtet, die mit verschiedenen Aktivitäten spielerisch an Insekten herangeführt werden. Seit 1998 werden mit weiteren Programmpunkten (Poster, Diavorträge, Videos etc.) Jugendliche und Erwachsene gezielt angesprochen.

New species of the genus Neolucanus Thomson, 1862 from Vietnam and China and Dorcus Mac Leay, 1819 from Myanmar are described, pictured and compared with the related species. A photo of Epidorcus piceipennis (Westwood, 1855) is pictured first time and compared with Epidorcus gracilis (Saunders, 1854), Epidorcus andreasi (Schenk, 2009) and Epidorcus similis (Schenk, 2009). A pair of Lucanus liuyei Huang et Chen, 2010 ssp. incert. from China, western Guangxi is pictured.

Two new species of the genus Lucanus Scopoli, 1763 (Lucanus viheari spec. nov. from northern Cambodia and Lucanus bidentis spec. nov. from southern Vietnam), a new species of the genus Neolucanus Thomson, 1862 (Neolucanus latissimus spec. nov. from China, Zheijang province) and a new subspecies of the genus Cyclommatus Parry, 1863 (Cyclommatus weinreichi yapensis sspec. nov. from western New Guinea and Yapen Island) are described, pictured and compared with the related species. Further a new place of discovery for Lucanus fujianensis Schenk, 2008 in Guangdong province, China is reported and the largest known male of Lucanus wemckeni Schenk, 2006 is pictured.
